primary purpose: SAP R/3 is an integrated software package that combines all the functional computing needs of a business into one program. SAP R/3 can be expanded by adding modules, such as 'Travel'. It can also be customized to fit the needs of a company's business processes. Initially, the University purchased SAP R/3 to integrate its financial, procurement, and human resources data. New functionality will continue to be added to the University's system now that the original SAP R/3 configuration has been implemented.
ESS: Employee Self Service
primary purpose: The Employee Self Service system provides benefit eligible employees online access to their personal data stored in SAP. Available for viewing are such items as the latest pay advice, vacation and sick leave balances and Flexible Spending Account claims. Some items can be changed online, including addresses, banking information and Form W4 information. ESS can be accessed from any Web browser 24 hours a day.
